Job Summary
Has technical responsibility for organizing and executing technical assignments relating to the work of Magna Mirrors (Taicang), innovating new technologies, support of continuous improvement projects and cost reductions related to chemical raw material and parts. Performs routine technical tasks requiring application of chemical research techniques and procedures. Rigorously follows, and at times defines, the criteria required in carrying out a series of scientific and technical tasks. Exercises judgment as required on details of work and then makes selections and adaptations of technical alternatives of raw material and parts. Must be conversant and capable in the broader aspects of the chemistry as well as having well-developed computer skills in order to implement new ideas and concepts or resolve existing manufacturing issues. Considerable originality and initiative are expected so that the person can work on day-to-day issues with little or no constant supervision.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Plans, organizes, and executes research and development of chemical related raw material & parts on new or existing projects, products or processes. Is sufficiently flexible to contribute short-term over a broad range of topics.
2. Actively participates in the design of experiments and solution of specific problems. Once direction is received and routes towards solution defined, proceeds towards implementation.

3. Is expected to assimilate new topics and techniques through utilization of published literature, through interaction with in-house technical expertise and through appropriate external training.
4. Communicates on a technical level to assist in using equipment and interpreting the results for development and problem-solving activities related to chemical raw material and parts.
5. Response for development and implementation of quality procedures, work instructions and standards of chemical composition.

REQUIREMENTS
1. Must be a self-confident person with the ability to represent the function.
2. Must be credible in working in a research and development mode and must demonstrate sufficient confidence when interacting at all levels of the division.
3. Must have good verbal and written communication skills of Chinese and English. Must be capable of communicating technical data and must be capable of assimilating technical input. Must have the ability to conceptualize and articulate clearly. Ensures that research and development results are properly documented.
4. Must be capable of demonstrating originality in tackling non-routine problems.
5. Is familiar with, and complies with, legislation and regulations relating to laboratory safety, chemical identification, hazard communication, and environmental protection issues.
6. Must have experience of chemical product development. Not only in lab but also in plant.
7. Must have an aptitude to understand the fundamentals of instrumentation and equipment to ensure assets are used to their fullest capabilities.
8. Must understand the methodology and requirements of research and development. Must understand scientific data, be capable of scientific analysis including error analysis, and must be capable and confident to challenge experimental results where appropriate.
9. Prefer to have good interpersonal skills so that the person can work in a team-oriented environment.
10. An understanding and support for Magna Mirrors goals, policies, and procedures desired.
11. BS in polymer science, materials science, chemical engineering, chemistry or biology from a four-year college - plus one to three years of relevant experience in a research environment which should include a broad in-depth knowledge of chemistry and materials preferably including the following areas:
A. Adhesion/adhesives and coatings.
B. Thin films
C. Polymer compounding and processing.
D. Analysis techniques including SEM, EDAX, FTIR, DSC/TGA, HPLC/GPC.
E. Mechanical characterization of materials.
F. Experimental design and statistical data analysis.
G. Data acquisition, including computer-aided interfacing.
H. MS office software skills.
I. Mathematical analysis including statistical techniques.
