This exciting and challenging role involves working closely with the sales team to provide a high-quality level of technical expertise, consultancy and representation for Oxford Nanopore Technologies Ltd.’s products, ensuring the successful application of the products to customers’ research. The successful candidate will be working to strengthen the company's relationship with scientists encouraging them to view ONT as the preferred supplier of solutions for their work.
The role is highly technical and involves providing pre-sales activities, including presentations, seminars and technical calls. The Field Applications Scientist (FAS) will be supporting customers in all stages of the technology, including experimental design, use of ONT’s software and data analysis. Responsibilities include providing specialized expertise to assist with complex and technical customer inquiries and in addition, providing technical advice focusing on ONT’s technology and interacting with the Technical Support and Customer Solutions Departments as required.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Accountable for flow cell utilization, existing and new customer growth within the sub-region.
• Providing front-line applications support to customers on all aspects of the nanopore sequencing workflow for example, extraction, sample prep, sequencing through to initial data analysis.
• Providing applications and end to end workflow consultation to new and existing customers, this includes on-site proof of concept opportunities.
• Onboarding, training and mentoring of sub-region new TS hires (TAS, FAS & FSE).
• Training, onboarding and supporting Distributors and their customers.
• Driving TAS team to be first line of support and only providing on site trouble shooting when a remote solution provided by TAS is not viable
• Promote to customers 1st line of support is via email, Chat and soon to be telephone support provided by TAS team.
• Providing high quality technical expertise to customers with a good knowledge of the literature
• Troubleshooting, learning and implementing new methods of identifying customer problems, uncovering their needs and suggesting working solutions based on our products.
• Coordinating and delivering trainings at customer sites; attending conferences and Nanopore Days
• Working with the regional Technical Applications and Sales teams to provide support to strategic customer accounts for both pre and post sales
• Supporting the onboarding, certification and maintenance of Service Provider Accounts
• Working closely with the sales team to provide high quality, effective technical expertise to customers and prospective customers in territories and provide effective back-up technical support to other regions through a thorough knowledge of ONT’s products and effective communication of applications related to these products
• Participating in the organisation and running of seminars, exhibitions and similar “on-site” activities at key accounts and congresses in the relevant territories
• Managing key customer relationships from a technical perspective to ensure success using Oxford Nanopore products
• Providing technical consultations on products and related applications as part of the all sales cycle
• Tracking, recording and documenting relevant information from all technical enquiries from customers and prospective customers into the CRM
• Monitoring the competition and market development and reporting findings
• Any other duties as might be required within the remit and responsibilities of the post
Qualifications/Education
• Masters/PhD in Genomics and or Molecular Biology disciplines
• Tertiary qualifications in project management
Experience (Essential)
• NGS platforms knowledge and practical experience.
• Experience in sample preparation methodologies
• Data analysis and interpretation of biological phenomena
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and time management skills
• Possess excellent problem-solving skills.
• A conscientious attitude with a can-do attitude and prepared to work in a challenging environment.
• Fluent in English
• Experience in fast paced, multi-tasking and matrixed reporting environments.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (Essential)
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office including SharePoint and *************
• Customer-facing skills
• Proven ability of effective written and verbal communication, and listening skills
• Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to effectively communicate.
