Position Purpose:
• Develop, implement, monitor, and review the comprehensive (EHS) environment, health and safety management, fire protection, and security systems.
• Implement initiatives to improve EHS culture and performance in the workplace, while ensuring compliance with both company and legal requirements.
• In collaboration with Site Management implement safe and environmentally responsible work practices, policies, and procedures, ensuring employees are trained and adhere to the standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Compliance
a. Ensures compliance will all laws and regulations as well as Food Union policies and procedures.
b. Keeps updated on changes in legislation and ensures adjustments are made to ensure compliance.
c. Responsible for the safety and health of employees, external contractors, and visitors.
d. Guides site management in implementing and monitoring safe working policies, practices and behaviours for the site
e. Ensure the site operates within environmental management standards.
2. Relationships
a. Proactively develops and maintains good external working relationships with Local Government, Regulatory authorities, Auditors, Contractors, Suppliers, etc.
b. Works collaboratively with industry team, JV2 leadership and JV1 site and line leadership, to ensure a positive culture focused on EHS compliance and zero harm.
3. Strategic Leadership
a. Guide the site leadership in the implementation of EHS, and security management strategies.
b. Integrate these EHS strategies, policies and practices into the WCM (World Class Manufacturing) system and the IMS (Integrated Management System) in SharePoint
c. Play an active role in the site management team. Supporting the team strategy “Together to World Class”
4. Day to day operations
a. Identify and assess hazard sources and take effective control precautions. Maintain the central Hazard and Environmental Aspects registers in SharePoint. Utilise the registers by integrating their use into daily practices
b. Carry out routine audits of systems and practices implementing corrective actions as required
c. Establish PPE procedures to ensure that effective personal protective equipment is provided at an acceptable cost.
d. Investigate all incidents and non-compliance down to the route cause. Establish and implement corrective actions for all unsafe acts and behaviours
e. Identify EHS training needs, develop training programmes, and deliver the training according to the “Adult Learning Facilitation techniques” as certified trainer for the site.
f. Ensure routine checks are carried out on all safety systems eg safety showers, eye wash stations, relief valves etc.
5. Safety Culture.
a. Lead the site safety culture guided by the Leadership and Teamwork models (The “Leadership Challenge” and the “5 Powers of a Team”)
b. Align EHS with the World Class Manufacturing systems and integrate and simplify the systems where practical
c. Integrate routine Gemba WALKs into the Leader Standard Work. Ensure the main focus of WALKs is to assess and improve safe behaviour practices.
6. Administration
a. Manage the Site Security and the Security Team
b. Prepare, monitor, and manage EHS budgets.
c. Ensure excellent record keeping of all safety data and records.
d. Maintain safety KPIs reporting when off target on corrective actions.
e. Report and investigate all incidents within the time prescribed in the incident reporting standards.
7. Other matters assigned from time to time
Qualifications:
1. Hands on active leader, proficient in coaching and motivating the team in the Gemba (the real workplace)
2. A strong sense of urgency for improvements
3. Systems thinking. Able to develop, integrate and simplify systems into common, central shared systems.
4. Strong focus on safety culture in practice not just in documentation. Able to implement regulations in a simple practical manner
5. Bachelor's degree and above preferably majoring in EHS.
6. Five years and more of experience in safety management in a manufacturing environment.
7. Good planning, organizational skills
8. Be familiar with the establishment and maintenance of EHS systems.
9. Good EHS expertise
10. Excellent and proven written and oral skills (Some English is desirable)
11. Proficient computer skills including Microsoft office applications.
