The University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) is seeking to recruit one System Operation Specialist in IT Services.
Qualifications
Essential
Bachelor’s degree or above in Computer Science/Information Technology or equivalent;
At least 3 years’ experience of supporting existing systems in a business as usual environment;
Experience of managing and running larger data and computing systems and environment;
Experience of data management;
Experience of integrating existing systems to new systems;
Experience of dealing with complex and specialist technical issues related to system and database;
Knowledge of supporting academic and administration systems at Chinese higher education institutions;
Planning and organization skills;
Excellent operational, change and service management skills;
Ability to write and interpret technical specifications documents;
Knowledge of diverse IT resources;
Excellent command of the English language, spoken and written;
Quick learning in all IT related area (Windows, Linux, HPC, Database, etc.).
Desirable
Relevant IT Certifications (e.g. ITIL, DBA related, RHCE);
Experience of managing multi-tiered system design and development;
Good methodical and analytical skills;
Project Management Qualification.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Planning and Organising (40%)
Build a body of knowledge, specifically relating to the technical aspects of Cloud Computing, Big Data and Internet of Things;
Develop and release cloud-based enterprise software and service or work with vendors to offer the community good solution;
Lead on the improvement of data quality at UNNC;
Evaluate and recommend system and network solutions for short-, medium-, and long-term system or data projects;
Ensure the viability of IT architecture UNNC, including the procurement or change to current systems and services, in collaboration with other department and teams;
Oversee and supervise third-party vendors and supplier’s system and network components installation, configuration and maintenance.
Service Support (30%)
Consult and evaluate requirements, recommend designs, provide cost analysis, plan projects, and coordinate tasks to reate or enable new services;
Manage, support, design and optimize all the University databases (resides in MSSQL, Oracle, MySQL, etc.) ensuring the University’s intellectual property safe, clean and run in healthy status;
Work within established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval and success of changes made to the system and network infrastructure;
Analyze and resolve technical problems across all systems and services;
Manage security on continuing and new systems;
？ Support data migration, including validation of data fields;
Lead on decommissioning of local systems (including locally developed spreadsheets and databases).
Analysis & Reporting (20%)
Conduct technical research on data system upgrades and components to determine feasibility, cost, time required, and compatibility with current system;
Understand the data complications affecting UNNC;
Feed into global IT Disaster Recovery;
Recommend/apply enhancements to management or senior IT staff;
Research the latest information technology (IT) security trends.
Other (10%)
Performs related duties as required, some out of hours on-call support will be required;
Participate in training and staff development schemes as trainer or trainee as appropriate;
Maintain appropriate professional development, expertise and awareness;
Undertake other tasks and responsibilities as appropriate to the role.
