About:

The Tesla Dimensional and Craftsmanship team is responsible for ensuring that the design of Tesla products is optimized so they are utterly compelling in the store and provide a faultless experience during use, establish build capabilities to meet

the highest standards of dimensional precision.

The candidate is required to generate dimensional and sensory targets or build objectives based on user experiences assessment and dimensional analysis. To draw logical conclusions and make data driven recommendations based on data analysis are fundamental requirements.

We are seeking a passionate team member to represent the Dimensional & Craftsmanship team and lead the initiatives at the Tesla GFSH.

 

Requirements:

   

Fluent in English, for reading, writing, and comprehension.
Degree qualified or similar qualification in either an Industrial Design or Mechanical Engineering discipline.
Good level of numeracy, literacy and logical reasoning skills.
At least 2-3 years of automotive or complex product design knowledge experience.
An inherent attention to detail and an understanding of the factors that create a perception of exceptional quality in the mind of the consumer.
Catia or similar CAD system experience.
An appreciation of how subjective data can be measured or quantified to develop robust Craftsmanship targets.
Creative, constructive and positive approach in order to be able to positively contribute to the development of design solutions to meet Craftsmanship targets.
Proficiency in 1D and/or 3D dimensional variation analysis such as 3DCS or VisVSA.
Ability to statistically analyze measurement data in order to root cause dimensional issues and recommend mitigation and solution actions.
Strong communication and influencing skills.
Demonstration of knowledge in a variety of production and prototype manufacturing methods.
Flexibility to work across a wide variety of areas of vehicle design.

 

 

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Dimensional & Craftsmanship Leader, your main responsibilities will include:
Taking ownership of Craftsmanship attribute deliverables for defined vehicle systems or areas.
Benchmarking of competitor vehicles and consolidation of data in order to define robust and appropriately competitive Craftsmanship targets.
Creation and development of gap and flush build objectives and supporting delivery of those targets.
Locator and datum scheme development, documentation and coordination between parts & tooling.
Dimensional analysis (1D and 3D) to mature concepts and drive dimensionally optimized designs.
Analyze statistical data to establish target based design compatibility and to make recommendations.
Support the development of part and system based tolerance requirements through GD&T with Design, Manufacturing and Quality.
Review assembly and measurement tooling to ensure alignment with agreed and optimized design strategies.
Driving closure of Craftsmanship and Dimensional issues through influencing and negotiation, using quantitative data, and creating constructive alternative solutions.
Working with and supporting the quality functions to ensure targets are appropriately understood and measurable.
Leading and influencing other teams in GFSH to help prioritize and resolve the most important quality and manufacturing issues.
Identifying new Quality/Craftsmanship issues requiring resolution.
Support the development of measurement requirements to ensure product build meets design criteria.
Support local suppliers to ensure dimensional requirements are understood and appropriate fixture designs are in place.
Liaising between local manufacturing team and US counterparts.
