PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To provide technical input, reading and reviewing technical project specifications for materials. To be the lead for material problems / failures and to provide root cause analysis for these problems / failures. To develop good relationships with material testing laboratories, to be able to perform testing on materials during investigations / trials. To be the company spokesman on material issues with clients, vendors and technical authorities. To provide technical input and advice to the company and projects on CRA materials (Corrosion Resistant Alloys), their use and other issues such as, specific handling, storage, preservation and disposal requirements.

Main Duties of the Jobholder

1. Familiarise with as many material grades and types as possible including alternatives.
2. Familiarise with project materials used for construction with particular emphasis on CRA materials, such as Inconel, DSS, SDSS, Ti, CuNi, Cr-Mo, etc..
3. Keep abreast of current material technology and provide possible cost saving advice.
4. Maintain and develop knowledge of processes/equipment/materials using trade publications, vendor visits and the World Wide Web.
5. Familiarise with all Project related material Specifications including all material types, grades, thicknesses/diameters and sizes.
6. Arrange material testing with relevant laboratories for assurance and investigative purposes
7. Arrange vendor visits and provide technical assessment to SCM and Projects on capability, Quality and consistency of product.
8. Arrange, witness and review Non-Destructive Testing, (NDT), Mechanical testing, including 3rd Party and Client witness when required.
9. Document, register and maintain material testing results, including 3rd Party and Client review and approval where required.
10. If material failures occur, take the lead to investigate, in consultation with Lead Welding Engineer and other company personnel, provide RCA and recommend corrective actions/controls.
11. Provide guidance on making / taking preventative steps to unnecessary avoid unnecessary cost or schedule delays, taking into account Code / specification requirements and production costs.
12. In addition to the above, shall be responsible for other duties assigned by the Quality Manager

Requirements
In depth knowledge of Materials used in the Oil & Gas fabrication industry, related Codes and standards ASTM.
Detailed knowledge of CRA materials (Corrosion Resistant Alloys) and their usage
Fluent in spoken Chinese and English.
Good technical writing and computer skills.
Should be assertive towards implementation of material control procedures & systems.
Ability to delegate but also to work with self motivation.
Good command of written technical English
Minimum 10 years experience material selection and review for fabrication in the Oil & Gas industry including Offshore / Onshore / Pressure-Vessels and Boiler projects.
Should have practical experience of metallurgical testing.
Have vendor assessment experience for selection and test sampling
Basic understanding of constructability methods.
Minimum degree in Metallurgy, (masters would be advantageous).
Internal Auditor would be advantageous but not essential.
